Direct reduction is the process in which iron oxides are reduced to metallic iron in the solid state without a melting stage. The metallized product sometimes called Sponge Iron and is used for steel making in electric furnace.

Satmagan is a magnetic balance in which a sample of magnetic material is weighed, first in a gravitational field, and then in a magnetic field. If the magnetic field is strong enough to saturate the magnetic material (e.g. metallic iron) in the sample, the ratio of the two weighing’s is linearly proportional to the amount of magnetic material present in the sample. For accuracy, this assumes the presence of only one magnetic component.
